I'm wondering if it is possible to underlock these cards to let's say 100 mhz?

I want to get one but I don't game often and my computer is in a very VERY small compartment so I want it to disapate as little heat as possible when I only use it for browsing etc.

So is it possible to clock the card that low?.. And if so with what software? Powerstrip won't let me clock down my current radeon 9000 pro much.

Also will this affect 2d speed at all in windows?

Hmm.. anotehr thing. shouldn' ati incorporate some kinda powersaving utility in their drivers?.. cuz the gfx cards are starting to use a lot of power these days.

Just buy a radeon 9600pro if you want little heat dissipation. Should be enough for your gaming purposes.. and you won't have to downclock anything.

If you want bragging rights as well as a cool temp, I have the solution. Buy an X800, then go buy a GF2 for your computer. You can claim you have an X800, but you'll have the low temps of a GF2 ;)

I second what high said, what good is it to have "bragging rights" if you don't even really use it? People BRAG about their overclocks, not their underclocks ;)

Just get the saffire toxic line, or the his with artic cooling. Quiet and vents the heat outside the case. Than you can have bragging rights (which is what we all want) and good performance when you decide to game.

Wow.. sorry ppl.. I really thought ppl here had some humor! (I was joking there)

I'm ofcourse buying it because I want to use it!

ronnn.. thanx for the advice but it doesn't matter if the cooling is good because like I said.. I have my computer in a small compartment. (like a wardrobe) and it works fine now with and athlon xp running at 1.2 ghz @ 1.2 V and a radeon 9000 pro. No heat problems at all even now at summer.

But I want to get rid of my crappy nf7 mobo and get a new a64 mobile + a x800 pro pe.

The mobile won't give me a heat problem but the x800 probably will unless I underclock it heavily most of the time. I want this powerful a gfx card because I am using a 24" monitor @ 1920*1200 res. I want to game at that res.

Now.. when I do game what I will do if it gets to hot in my wardrobe is just open the door!

I keep it inside there because I hate noise!

Although it may freak out when underclocked. I know with my old 9800P and 9700P if you underclocked it past a certain point it would just not work.

You can probably underclock it a little bit but ussually from my experiences they will screw up if u go to low. GL though.
