Underclocked Memory in MSI Afterburner, Blue Screens -> Can't access MSI anymore

Hey all,

I was experimenting with underclocking my memory on my 5870. I underclocked it to 600 and...now I seem to blue screen whenever I attempt to access the card (either from MSI afterburner or Catalyst Control Center).

I'd love to set it back to factory clocks, but obviously, I can't without access to the application that I used to underclock it in the first place. D:

What do I do? :/

Out of curiosity... WHY did you try under clocking your card?

As for what to do, did you try clearing your cmos?

No, did not try clearing my CMOS. Hmm, will try that tomorrow. Thank you. :)

And to answer your question, was thinking ti would bring the temp down a little since it was getting pretty hot under load.

go into safe mode and you can fix it from there. I accidentally applied the wrong settings before and since I had the settings set to be applied at startup, I just went into safe mode and just un installed the app.

How do you fix it from safe mode? When I was in safe mode, it said that I didn't have the appropriate drivers to open MSI Afterburner. Which program do you use to fix it in safe mode?

{edit: ohhhhh, you just uninstalled MSI altogether from safe mode}

yes just go to add remove programs in safe mode. and from now on do not have it set to apply settings at start up until you know what settings are actually 100% stable.

You could also just delete the profile files MSI Afterburner creates. Delete the files under the afterburner/profiles directory and it should startup correctly the next time you run it.

Oh yeah, I forgot Afterburner sets the setting in the OS. So resetting the CMOS wont do anything.

And as for lowing your card's temps, the GPU itself has a much larger effect on that then the memory.

Went into safe mode, removed MSI Afterburner. Made sure to click NO when it asked me if I wanted to keep my settings.

Problem solved. :) Thanks guys!

This solution I'm sure would have worked as well, and I'll be employing this if my computer starts freaking out whenever I re-install MSI Afterburner again. Thanks. :)

Now, *where* are these profiles, exactly?

Under the profiles directory where you installed Afterburner. You can keep MSIAfterburner.cfg. The actual profile(s) to delete would look like this. VEN_10DE&DEV_1080&SUBSYS_15803842&REV_A1&BUS_1&DEV_0&FN_0.cfg
