Underclocked dell?

This is on my dell inspiron 9300
When i check out my processors speed by right clicking my computer, i get this...
"processor 1.60ghz
798 MHz, 1.25gb of ram
physical address extension"

and in cpu-z, it says: core speed: 798, multiplier: x6.0, FSB: 133mhz, Bus: 532 MHZ

also sometimes when i check properties of my computer, it says 1.6 ghz instead of 1.6ghz.

Im very confused.

thats just the speed step technology kicking in. It will downclock your processor when it doesn't need the full speed, and clock back up when you run a high-demand program.

There used to be this program that allowed you to control it. It's called Speedswitch XP. I used to use it myself, but you can also change it in the settings.

here's a link to speedswitch xp:

you can double your battery life by switiching to max battery and dropping your screen brightness down a couple notches

their default setting suck. the monitor switches off so often.

If you want to keep the CPU speed as is and disable speedstep then may I recommend this program it will allow you to undervolt your cpu and decreas your GPU clock(optional), to save battery but still keeping that speed up.
