Underclocked 8800gts?

Hi. I just got a new 8800gts from MSI and ran 3dmark (my first time using the program.) It says my memory clock is 297MHz and my core clock is 108 Mhz. Is this right/possible? Everything I've seen about the card seems to say it should be faster. Is there something I'm not understanding on a fundamental level, like a clock multiplier or something?

Help!

Just trust that it will raise once you go into a game or 3D application. That is when they raise.

The FX cards have 2d and 3d clocks and some 6 series. As far as I know the 8 series does NOT have 2d and 3d clocks. I could be mistaken. However I would also point out that even with two sets of clocks it is not likely that the manufacturer would use such odd numbers. My belief is that because the architecture and driver are both new - the test reads them wrong.

I would not be concerned with some numbers from a benchmark test saying your clock is 108mhz. This would mean your system was 1/5 of its correct speed and would give you a 3dmark score that would be incredibly low. The only numbers you really want to pay attention to as a gamer are the FPS. If your score and FPS are in line with other 8 series cards you should not be worried. I got 9k 3dmark07 with my GTS.

Peace.

don't worry about it

3dmarks shows my 7800GS as running a 550mhz core and 0.0hz (yes that's right Hertz not Megahertz) but I still get scores that are with in the normal range...for an overclocked 7800GS running at 550mhz core and 1350mhz memory, right between a 7900GS and 7900GT.

Thanks for the quick replies. My concern stems from this possibly being a refurbished card... I sent in my X1900XT for replacement and got this card back. I am getting minimum FPS in Company of Heroes around 45 fps and a 3dmark score of 7000, with my Athlon 64 3800+ (dual core). Does that sound about right? I can't imagine them sending me an underclocked 8800GTS in replacement for my 1900XT....

I'm using the December 5th drivers from Nvidia's website. I blamed the 3Dmark score on my CPU test, which was getting like 1 FPS in 3dmark.

The exchange is great fo you. Scores are not that bad, but driver cleaner should have benn used to go fron ATi to vidia. Also that CPu @stock is a big bottleneck.

I know the CPU is a big bottleneck, but I'm not sweating it too much. I never planned on having this GPU! Can someone point me in the right direction for driver cleaner?

Thanks to all,

Hmm... looks like driver cleaner costs 10 bucks? Is there any way to clean out the ATI stuff myself?

Google Driver Cleaner Pro.

You can still get the free one and it still works fine for me.
