Underclock CPU - Graphic Card

Aimster

Lifer
How do I do this?

I want to possibly underclock my CPU to around 500mhz and my graphic card to the lowest settings.

When I am on battery power im usually just surfing the net.

I used SpeedswitchXP. It seems to work good. Now I was wondering if there is a program like SpeedswitchXP that will allow me to lower my voltage too.
This is for the Core Duo Cpu.

Now all I need is a utility that will allow me to underclock my graphic card.

I use something called ATITool to overclock my x1600 in my MacBookPro. I'm prety sure it can underclock it as well, google for it.

Yep, i use ATItool to OC and UC my X1600. i had to download the .25 beta for it to work, incase you run into trouble. I'll look into speedswitchxp, i've been looking for something to edit cpu speed.

How is the OCing going on your X1600?

I use Notebook Hardware Control to undervolt my P-M and have step it through various speeds based on load. Keeps my notebook nice and cool.

Not bad, I do 400/400 and am able to run Oblivion at 1024x768 with 2xAA turned on. I do have grass on and I find a couple stutters when outside and have a couple of NPC's I'm interacting with. It's not bad, but it's definitely noticeable. I really don't want to go any higher since this machine is also my work laptop and I'd be up the creek without it if something happened.

Hmm...OK i've been wondering about this for a very long time, there is something wierd (but not bad) about the X1600 in my TM8200. My stock clocks were 445/495. I now have it OCed to 465/510 without a hint of instability. I run oblivion @ 1680x1050 full HDR and med/high quality, at a steady 25 FPS or so. I was browsing a MBP forum the other day, and noticed people talking about 3dmark05 scores with their OCed X1600's...most people were getting in the mid 3000's at max OC. I just got 4339. stock was 4168. I wish some else here would get a TM8200 so we could do some comparison. What are the other specs on your MBP?

2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 100GB 5400 RPM HD and everything else is the same as any other MBP. That a pretty good graphics clockspeed on your Acer, but I don't think I could get my card up to that speed without doing some harm to it. Since it's smaller and more compact than your Acer, it's cooling ability is diminished. While I could probably get the clocksped up higher than 400/400, I really don't want to risk damaging it. Which is fine since I didn't buy my MBP for playing Oblivion and comparing 3dmark05 benches.

I overclocked my Pent-M(1.7 to 2.26) cpu and my x300 vidcard. 😀 On battery, it's locked to 800mhz using SpeedSwitchXP and the vidcard is clocked down to 100/100 by ATITool
