Underage Mexican drug mules are in for a shock in one Arizona county

We have been told so many times that them ILLEGALS are just here to work and nothing else and let them become LEGALS or you are a racist/xenophobic/bastard/etc.

Before:

Not surprising, that made children ideal drug mules.

It was a crime with few consequences. The U.S. Border Patrol would confiscate the drugs and send the teens back to Mexico — only to see them again weeks or even days later.

And how the criminals were benefited:

If the judge sends the case to juvenile court, Nieblas would have the opportunity to learn English, take high school courses and possibly be allowed to live in the U.S. someday.

Now:

The new policy has been a shock to the teenagers who get caught, according to Cochise County Atty. Brian McIntyre.

"Just turn me loose, get it over with," he said they tell the border agents, who then deliver the bad news: They are being turned over to the county sheriff's office for prosecution.

"Then, frankly, the tears start coming," McIntyre said.

Gotta love how them lawyers spin:

She went on to argue that Nieblas did not understand the consequences of his lawbreaking and deserved a chance at rehabilitation in the juvenile system.

Oh really? Then why so many repeat offenders (back again within day(s))? They did not know any better, right?

on one hand, it's good that they are being punished for their crimes.

on the other, it's not free to arraign, prosecute, and house a person in the criminal system.

i'm conflicted.

you know legalizing marijuana would cut down on just about all those mules.

I dont see why the drug mules even cross the border. Just call for the pickup, and have the people come by and pick up the drugs and quickly throw the load over the fence.

You are missing the main point.

If the adults are caught by US Border Patrol, they would be in big trouble. But if the young kids are caught, they would be released and send back to Mexico to try again the next day or week.

Or we could just end the war on drugs. These mules pretty much by the nature of their job have to live in Mexico, they're only commuting here for very temporary work.

too much common sense and too much money lost by the people that want it to continue. It would never work.
