Under what terms can you report a neighbor for distrubing the peace?

My neighbor has this ghetto car with a ghetto sound system. He's got a sub in his car, it rattles like crazy, and he played it all day. It's 5:00pm now.. he's been playing it since 3:00pm.. He does this consistently everyday. :|

edit: okay maybe not all day.. but since 3:00 :frown:

call your local police department and find out.

At worst, unless your area is really busy or understaffed, you'll have an officer out in half an hour to at least tell the guy to turn it down.

If it were to happen twice, I could see some citiations tot he guy. *HINT HINT*

Hey, now, aren't we going to be getting all the whiners from the "homeowners association" thread posting in here how you have no right to regulate what he does in his own yard and house? 'A man's house is his kingdom' and all that?

uh, 5pm in most parts wont be late enough for noise ordinance.

MIKE

If it's loud enough that it is disturbing him in the privacy of his home (enough to warrant a post) it doesn't matter what time it is. Disturbing the Peace is 24. Noise ordinances are seperate laws that have their specifics, like time and area.

coincidently he stopped about 10 mins after I posted...

The noise isn't the only thing that irks me about this particular neighbor. The kids ride there bikes up and down our driveway, their front yard is a mess, the dog in the back never stops barking. The dad drives a Harley that sounds like it has an open exhaust. His kids modify their scooters so that they sound just like the dad's Harley. I wish they would get kicked out (the house is a rental). :|

I'm not one to call the cops on someone but it's a last resort. (Been putting up with it for about 3 months now.)

Hehehe, I live in an HOA neighborhood and I was running an RC car around my cul de sac for about an hour on Sunday afternoon. No problems.

That sucker is fast and fun! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Nitro powered RC cars are fun!!!

Here's a novel idea: If he's bothering you why don't you just go over there and ask him nicely to turn it down? I think this is probably the best first course of action.

Lets see: the dog is always barking. His car stereo is always loud. He has a loud harley.

Solution: call the police. Local by-laws regulate noise from dogs and such. Call in a complaint about the dog. I know here that 2 or more complaints gets the dog impounded.

Man if you wanted me to turn down my speakers, all ya had to do is tell me. I know they rattle, but hey money is tight dude. . .

Sheesh, hate to find out about your contempt for me through an anandtech post.

I asked a neighbor to turn down his car stereo 2 summers ago (from about 5 houses up the block... I could hear his bass over my stereo inside my house.) All I got was a "f--- you" and a few other words shouted at me. I just looked at the guy and said "I was just trying to be a friendly neighbor by asking politely. I can assure you the police will be here shortly and they can ask you to turn down your music however they want to. I think my uncle is on duty today. I'll give him a call." Called police, *never* heard their stereo again.

It's nice to have an uncle working in police on a street beat.

?!? Dude!. Deal with it. Why don't you try Moving Out of the Trailer Park!

If you say something, anything aside 'waz sup', it will come off rude and you will make an enemy. Try and be a friend and let them get to know you and them show them your sleeping schedule and hopefully they will respect that. Else hold out and throw a party with lots of friends, keg, and a turntable & 🙂

I love living 2 doors down from a cop.

The only party my neighbors had was a sex party on one side (we had just moved in and didn't know anyone in the neighborhood-there were Corvettes and other showy cars parked out on the street that night and that was the only sex party we've ever witnessed). We only knew about it because we can see into their kitchen from our stairwell and there were lots of scantily clad women walking around.

Oh, there was one other party. My neighbor on the other side has a college aged son and he had a few friends over one Saturday night when his parents were out of town. Since their sliding glass door to the back yard is about the same location as one of our bedroom windows we were kept up part of the night one night. We had a little talk with him the next day but never told his parents about it...hell, I was a teen once and he wasn't that bad. He's a nice kid and I didn't want to get him in a bunch of trouble.
