Hello,

I am replacing my counter top via Home Depot. I purchased a new sink/faucet to go with it. HD charging $200 for disconnecting plumbing prior to counter top installation and another $300 to reconnect it (yes it has garbage disposal). $500 is a bit steep. The counter top + new sink/faucet already cost me an arm and a leg so I don't want to dish out another $500 if I don't have to. How hard is it to do this yourself?

Thanks!

Not hard at all. Even if your holes are not in the same spot, it's easy to redo plumbing. Just take a pic of current setup and look at youtube for some plumbing videos. And with PVC, it's easy to fix if you screw something up.

There is no way I would pay $500 for a plumbing connect/disconnect! All you need are some plumbing wrenches. Look it up on youtube, it is very easy.

Don't go into it thinking its a piece of cake. The undersink is cramped, low light and wet(plan to have water leaks/sprays during the process). You may also find that you need something after your first Home Depot trip. And second. and maybe third. The garbage disposal is heavy and it is kind of a juggling act if you don't have help. But doing it all yourself will probably only cost you < $50 and about 3-4 hours.

It's cake. Just did my GF's counter top and plumbing garbage disposal setup. You could also post pictures here for some guidance.

BTW, what's the point of garbage disposals? My GF wants me to put a new one on, but I don't understand the point. If you need to grind food up why not just save the plumbing and throw the food away?
