If the state will not do it, I'm sure others will do it in their stead.

Well it's kind of good.

However, there are still fears that Ms Ashtiani, a mother-of-two, could be put to death by other means after she was found guilty of an affair while she was married.

It depresses me that the place is in such a state that I could believe for a moment that it is good news that a woman will be put in jail for the rest of her life (or even executed by different means) for having an affair....

Didn't she kill or aid in the killing of her husband?

EDIT: Never mind, she was acquitted.

It's not like the USA never punishes women for consensual sex simply because it grates against the sensibilities of certain fundamentalist morons... Pass a couple bucks for the deed and suddenly we need the police to save society from the evil whores!

Hahahah. Hahahhaa.

Did you just try to compare getting misdemeanor prostitution charge with being stoned to death for cheating on your husband?

I bet you still sit at the kids table. Am I right?

If it's honest conversation I'm looking for, free of ego and indignation, I'll take a kid's table over whichever table full of self assured jackasses you sit at any day. You wouldn't know liberty if it let you shoot yourself in the prefrontal lobe.

I'm not sure if that was some sort of defense of your liberal "everything is relative, we are as bad as them" post or not.

I am 100% self-assured that laws against prostitution are not the same as stoning adulterers.

Call it a "beam in our own eye" post. It's not so much a defense of my position as a mockery of your delusion of freedom.

Odd because they are obviously the same, except in severity of punishment...

Mohammed ordered stoning 34 times as punishment! Islam is a valid religion and deserving of respect. How dare the rest of the world shove their values on Iran. Bigots!

In the same way that me going 26 in a school zone and 120 in a school zone is speeding, except in severity!

And adultery != prostitution. If you cant tell the difference between them, I am wasting my time here.

Oh, so they are the same, except that they are not. Got it. You truly are a mental midget.
We prefer to be called mental little people. The lack of ego, and disdain for reading too much into such trite phrases as "land of the free" accounts for the missing 8 or so gallons of water volume that your skull contains.

Wait, so you think prostitution and adultery are the same?

He also thinks a fine and a night in the local slammer is the same as being buried up to your neck and hit with rocks. (Small ones at first to delay death).

I really hope he is not a product of a US public school.

If I'm not mistaken what nonlnear said was that 'It's not like the USA never punishes women for consensual sex simply because it grates against the sensibilities of certain fundamentalist morons...", which is not a comparison between misdemeanor charges and stoning, but a statement that we have fundamentalist morons here too legislating their moral standards over folk who don't agree with them just like Iran does. It isn't the degree of severity of penalty that is relevant but the existence of the same moronic mentality here and there, the notion that religious motherfuckers know what is best for everybody and use force to apply their standards. The penalties are different, the stupidity is the same.

So you think it's terrible that Iranians would execute an adulteress, but you're fine and dandy with just imprisoning and marginalizing them. Got it...

I see his point. We punish hookers with a fine, they punish adulterers and rape victims with being buried to your head and having your skull smashed open with rocks.

Wait, I dont see his point. He sounds like a moron.

No. We are not. You missed the several posts where you have been made fun of for comparing adultery to prostitution.

Except that prostitution being illegal is not a religious thing. Look around the world, prostitution is banned in many places.

Look at liberal places like San Francisco, where they have tried and failed to legalize it.

The one place in the US where prostitution is legal (Nevada) is a VERY conservative state.

I am not following you.

Except that prostitution being illegal is not a religious thing.

Many countries make it illegal to control disease.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Russia
Take a look at The Russian Empire (Eastern Orthodox Christian):
By the late 19th century, prostitution was legal in the Russian Empire.

But, when the Communists (atheists) took over, they banned it...
Prostitution has been illegal in Russia since the establishment of the Soviet Union.

Hell, China's communist government (also atheist) is even trying to wipe out pornography:
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscent...overnment_campaign_targets_internet_porn.html
China's government launched a month-long campaign to stamp out Internet pornography on Monday
....
a woman was detained in Shanghai last month for allegedly filming herself having sex and posting the video online
