Uncopyable Files Installing XP Pro...Not

While installing XP Pro, it gives me an error saying that a certain file is uncopyable. It's a different file every time, though it never really gets past about 3%. I've tried 4 different CD-Rom Drives (2 were IDE, 2 were SCSI), 2 different HDs, different IDE cables, different HD access modes/speeds. I've reformatted maybe 15 different times, formatted the MBR, repartitioned, the whole deal. Different ram clock speeds, (pretty much fooled w/ everything in BIOS). The machine is a brand new Ahtlon XP system, non-overclocked, w/ an Epox 8K3A Motherboard. If you have any ideas as to what is going on, and/or what i can try checking or fixing, lemme know, i'm slowly running out of steam on this one, and i've little time to sit down and think about it.:disgust: Thanks

Reset your BIOS first.
If that doesn't work, try another stick of RAM.

Your memory could be failing you, but don't rule out that it could be just the xp disc. I've seen it happen first hand- got a new copy and all was all good from there!!!😉

I've had the same problem recently.

The disc is perfectly clean, not a single scratch on the top or bottom. Yet it would get to a certain spot and start saying several files where not readable. Different files everytime but it always starts doing it at 44%. The files it says are uncopyable are almost always .hlp files. If I let it skip past the 20 or so (one time it was 37!) files that are uncopyable XP will install just fine.

I did find a way to fix it though. I made a copy of the disc with Nero. It was able to copy the disk just fine and reported no read errors. The burnt copy of the disc works fine with no error messages!

I agree; sounds like damaged media.

Microsoft will replace it for free; don't have the phone number handy tho.
