Honestly the game seems poorly optimized and doesn't utilize modern hardware at all, which is why the benchmarks are so bunched up.

These games started on the PS3 if I'm not mistaken and continued with the PS4, both of which are hilariously outgunned by contemporary PC hardware.

So, are you calling a 5800X3D outdated Tech???

How on Earth did you get this sentiment from what was quoted? o_O

I said contemporary/modern PC hardware, so that includes the 5800x3D. The outdated stuff was the PS3 and PS4, both of which these games were developed around.

Also, it's obvious the 5800x3D and Raptor Lake CPUs are being bottlenecked by the GPU.

Why aren't OG Skylake CPUs like the 10900K topping up the charts?

Not sure if you're joking, but even if Skylake was on that chart (and it's not), it would probably rank above the Zen 2 CPU while being slower than all Zen 3 CPUs.

This looks very far from being poorly optimised. 13th gen looks about 10-15% faster than 12th gen, Ryzen 7k is in the middle but closer to 12th gen.

Even at 1080p the 4090 shows a performance uplift over RDNA2 and RTX 30 series.

This seems like exactly the opposite of what you're saying. Seems like it's actually quite good at pushing hardware to the limit.

Compared to the consoles you have Vega56 level hardware sitting around the 1440p at 45fps mark on maxed out settings above what is available on console also seems about right too for a game that ran at 1440p30 on the PS4 Pro.

I was thinking more the GPU aspect, as the Raptor Lake CPUs are clearly bottlenecked. But if an RTX 3080 can't hit 60 FPS at 4K in a legacy title that has no raytracing or advanced graphics, then to me either the game itself is not properly optimized or it's suffering from poor driver optimization.

I mean, this is a series that spans the PS3 to PS4 generation. The graphics are mediocre by today's standards. God of War, another PS4 port, is another underachiever.

I think many people would strongly disagree with that. In terms of pure raster techniques these games aren't any disadvantaged against other modern day titles - techniques wise it doesn't fall behind. Naughty Dog have done a great job of updating their engine over time.

Are you perhaps under the misconception that a 3080 can handle every modern day title at 60fps+ provided it doesn't include any RT etc? I think you should probably consult some reviews about that, because that's not the case at all. Computerbase's 4090 review works well to show this: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 FE review: Brutally fast: Benchmarks in WQHD, UHD & 5K with and without raytracing - ComputerBase

Even in pure raster with no RT a 3080 is not capable of 60fps across the board.

@uzzi38, I think you are correct. I think I was conflating Ampere's raw rasterization performance with the DLSS performance at 4K. Of course enabling DLSS changes things a lot if the game supports it.

Plus I believe the PS4/PS5 do temporal reconstruction instead of native resolution.

But looking at that chart just shows how far ahead Lovelace is compared to Ampere!
