Uncharted 2 gets Machinama Support

This looks awesome. A fully fleshed out camera recording system.

Notable are the addition of a green screen mode that will let video editors layer Nathan Drake and crew over whatever background you choose and the option to use a Bluetooth headset to record speech that will automatically lip synch on-screen characters.

This being the holy shit item

The Uncharted guys said they figured out how to get 100% of the PS3 resources going for Uncharted 2, whereas the first Uncharted game only used about 35% of the resources. They seem like pretty cool programmers.

Wow, that is awesome. More games need to have these features. I would love to be able to replay what I've done in Batman Arkham Asylum with a free-roam camera.

Just because they say they are using 100% of what the PS3 offers doesn't mean their code is efficient.

This is pretty awesome.

Naughty Dog is such a great company. When you hear them talking on podcasts, it's just obvious that they love what they do.

That's awesome. Does it have a way to get your video from your PS3 to your computer in a high quality format?

<-- Still pissed at Bungie

I was referring to CPU core and graphics core usage. The PS3 has a unique architecture with it's 8-CPU based cell processor that many developers simply do not take advantage of it. The guys behind Uncharted said in an interview that they figured out how to use the extra CPU power available to add in a bunch of graphic detail that they could not before using only the GPU power. I'll dig for the interview, in which they explain it better.

I've been watching a lot of UC2 game play videos and despite all the exciting action, the game just doesn't appeal to me. Everything you do is over scripted and you have zero control over the pace of the game. A lot of the things happening are too unrealistic. For example, the gunship keeps shooting rockets at you but you're unscathed every time. How's it possible that rockets strike objects 2 feet from you and you don't get a scratch?

PAX 09 game play video.

Well if you are playing and the rocket hits you then it is game over. You are unscathed only if you know what you are doing. I like the over scripted style of it, it feels like a movie.

How powerful do you think the PS3 is? I don't know for certain one way or the other, but from everything we have seen out of UC2 I would have to assume they are pushing the upper limits at the very least of what can be done. If they are ussing poorly optimized code, or even code of say average caliber, it would indicate that the PS3 is considerably more powerful then I think anyone that follows the market would reasonably believe.

Yeah, it seems that the devs took the approach of getting everything they wanted running, then said- 'Hey, we have x cores sitting around doing nothing, what would be cool to add?' and kept going on that route until they were at maximum utilization. This is a big difference between console native devs and PC devs. PC devs due to the nature of the platform get everything they want running and then try and reduce the load on the system, console devs you go in a different direction altogether(not that you don't optimize code, just fixed hardware development is an entirely different beast). Naughty Dog has been one of the strongest console native devs in terms of technology for many years now, them along with Polyphony are likely to remain several notches ahead of the rest of the developers in terms of what they can get the PS3 to do(which in some ways sucks for consumers, but it is par for the course).

Really awesome feature.. I don't know that I would personally utilize it, but I can imagine some pretty sweet stuff coming out of the more artistic types out there.
