Although the effects on the babies are not clear, the survey prompted several members of Congress to press for legislation that would strengthen controls on chemicals in the environment.

I am 100% for this.

That said, I am ALL for a far more orangic/natural society. In addition to make more natural baby bottles instead of plastic ones, why not pass laws that minimize the amount of packaging materials companies can use? I mean, how many layers of plastic bags did you have to go through the last time you bought some new electronic product?

All of this actually doesn't surprise me. Look at all the food we eat. Chemicals and pesticides on the plants, growth hormones in the meat, even the fish we eat will have traces of mercury. As time passes, there will be more and more babies with higher amounts of chemicals in their bodies.

I'll hold my panic until a study is done by a non-partisan outfit using more than 10 samples.

I'd be interested and knowing where the mothers were living. Did they all live in highly urban areas (N.Y. City) or were some of them living out in the boondocks?

Everything is coated with chemicals for our "convienence". One of the chemicals they mentioned was teflon, the non-stick stuff for pans. Every chemical you use gets into the body somehow.
