I've seen basically the same on the Compaq 1200 Notebook, which I found for a friend with a 500mhz AMD K62 selling for $1,100 (I don't remember from where, but if anyone would like to know I can find out again).

1) The Compaq is NOT a SVGA active matrix display
2) The Compaq is much bigger and heavier 7.5 lbs
3) The Compaq is a cheaper AMD chip..not Intel.

As for me, screen is the most important component in any laptop (assuming you can add memory to, at least, 128MB).
I got my ThinkPad 770E at UBid auction for $800 - it has 14.1" XGA (1024x768 pixels)active matrix and 266MHz PII. I added RAM to 128M, now Windows 2000 runs quite smoothly.

My point is: instead of buying new laptop of questionable quality, you'd better buy a used one but of a reliable brand (IBM rocks!) with the best screen you can afford.

From where? Compared to..? And don't dis AMD (tho, compaq, i don't care). If you're buying a p2 300, then it's unlikely you're using it for any powerhungry apps, in which the AMD would perform just as well.

These Actius notebooks do rock. Oddly mobile-mall is owned by pygmy, who also own mobilemania, who often do have the best prices on the Actius system. I'm not certain that this guy is a troll, as pygmy is a pretty responsible company.

I just bought a 290 for a work project and my wife has a 280, and the screens are the best I've seen, and I've used Dell, Toshiba, Digital HiNotes, Vaio's etc, and nothing is as bright as this Actius.
