Bsobel gave him a vacation for keeping us updated. Give the guy a pass, he is going through some serious shit and ATOT is his way to reach out.

100% agree. This is a place where he resorted to feel better when feeling like shit. Obviously he is on his way to get help, but that doesn't come instantly. Now the place he came to is gone for 3 days when he is probably in the most stressful part of his "getting better" phase... and that is starting it.

If JohnCU is goingn to rehab, he's not going the instant after making that post. ATOT has been very helpful for him as a support group and he's going to need more support now that he's preparing to go to rehab. Give him a warning to consolidate his threads and unban him.

1) If true, the ban doesn't matter he'll be free to post 25 days before he returns
2) It's not true, then the ban is warranted.

Where did he say he was walking out the door? He said he was going to rehab, he didn't say right this instant. I would agree with you if he was gone.

How about this. If he is gone he won't be posting anyway. Give him a warning, unban him. If he's telling the truth, you won't see him anyway. If he starts posting a bunch of crap, ban him again.

He told me directly via PM that he was 'leaving right now'

I think in a previous thread, he said his boss had come over, and that the rehab guys were on the way. That kind of implies a departure in the very near future.

Actually, talking to him on AIM... his boss came over to his house and pretty much forced him to sign up for employee assistance (who he talked on the phone with) and they wanted to send him to some kind of asylum. After that, he posted going to rehab... so I have no idea what happened in between.

Unlike some other locks, I really understand people are concerned about him and want to know he's OK. His 7 threads in OT over the last day weren't overly helpful to him and he has directly indicated he was leaving for rehab. He can still be PM'd by those who want to check on him (a vacation does not prevent him from PMing). So those that want to check on him can and he's shielded from some of the more unhelpful commentary he was getting anyway.

I think that if you were to ask John, he'd say he knew he was wrong for posting all the threads.
I also think that some of you place too much emphasis on your ability to help people over an internet message board.
None of you are doctors and some of you are fucked up yourselves.

When John and I last PMd, he seemed in pretty good spirits.

John's getting help right now from people that can actually help him. Real life people. Personally, I think he's better off getting the help there, than here.

I appreciate you replying. I didn't know that he was leaving immediately. I understand the circumstances now.
