Interesting. I always figured it was a waste of time. A show of solidarity I suppose, but doubted it ever really worked.

i think he was just banned for a week and then the week was up and the ban was released.

First time I ever remember seeing those was the Shinerburke saga.

And never once have I heard of the mods releasing a ban because of a few people's sigs.

wheather or not people have "unban blablabla" in their sig appears not to have any impact upon the banning/unbanning of blablabla.
It is the will of the mods that sets the ban-ness of members. The will of the mods alone controls ban-destiny!

I see his a lot, probably more than others. Been seeing something about chuckywang to. That's what got me to thinking about it today. Seems like a waste of time.

It's more of a passive-aggressive thing people do to express their annoyance at the generally unnecessary bans of members they liked.

its not really passive-aggressive. the truth is, the people who do that have no power. its just passive. however, there are people who bring it up every 3rd post and scream things like "but i guess that person would never get banned...unlike my buddy!!!! see sig!!!"
that seems more passive-aggressive.
i really think the sig thing is just non-violent protest.

Sort of a Ghandi thing. That seems about right. I was just wondering if it ever had any effect at all. Seems a bit silly to me to expect the mods to unban someone just due to their popularity or support by other members.

i dont think its ever worked.
i think part of the problem is that people lose their cool too quickly, as it tends to be a "heat of the moment" sort of response and the bannie probably tries to make a new account.
i have heard rumors and innuendo to suggest that there are formally banned members posting under new names and that mods are aware...but i never really believed it to be true.
