A few days ago, my dad called a local AAA auto insurance agent and requested a quote to compare with our current auto insurance policy we have together. My dad expressed interest in the deal and somehow the agent ended up coming to our house the next day with some forms while I was at work and he requested that my dad pay $150 up front. Well my dad doesn't speak english very well but he did tell the agent that he's not ready to switch and he's not gonna pay for anything yet so the agent left with the forms. I think this guy was trying to take advantage of my dad and scam him out of some money as well when he requested the money up front... wouldn't all payments go directly to corporate and not local agents??

Fast forward to today, I received in the mail a welcome letter from AAA and 2 membership cards for me and my dad. I called customer service and told them that the agent created the account without my authorization so they canceled it. The problem is that the agent has all our personal information including our social security number. If he's willing to do such unethical business practices, I'm sure he could do much more damage with all our private information. What can I do to protect myself in this situation?

Uh...if your dad can call an agent for an insurance quote he must be able to speak english well enough to get by...or is it the classic "I choose to know English when it's to my advantage" sort of thing???
