ATLANTA (AP) — A chance encounter at a Georgia gas station left a 65-year-old woman dead and a 73-year-old man facing a murder charge after authorities say the woman's car and his motorized wheelchair bumped and he opened fire, police said Wednesday.

Linda Hunnicutt, 65, had just pulled into the gas station in Macon shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday and stepped out of her Buick Lucerne when the man pulled a gun and fatally shot her, city police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet said.

"The whole encounter, I can tell you, was very brief," Gaudet said. "Everybody is just reeling from this."

Hunnicutt had driven onto the gas pump bay when the two vehicles made contact, police say.

Hunnicutt, described as a homemaker who lives a few miles from the station — was shot once in the chest with a 38-caliber handgun, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

The suspect, Frank Louis Reeves, was apprehended in the gas station parking lot. He was being held on a murder charge at the Bibb County Jail, Gaudet said. She didn't know whether he has an attorney, and jail records do not list one.

Reeves lives behind the service station in a group of apartments, Jones said.

No one answered a phone number listed for the residence on Wednesday.

The station is along busy Gray Highway, and the encounter was so brief that many of the people pumping gas were not immediately aware of what had just happened in one corner of the lot, Gaudet said.

When police arrived, Hunnicutt was in cardiac arrest and officers began performing CPR. She was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, where the trauma team pronounced her dead at 1:25 p.m., less than a half-hour after the shooting, authorities said.

The man gave a statement to detectives, Gaudet said, but authorities are not revealing what he said.

Hunnicutt is married, and her husband was on the road for his job with a dental lab company when the shooting happened, Jones said.

Jones, who has been with the coroner's office for 22 years, said he can't recall a case such as this in the central Georgia city 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.

"I've never seen anything like it," Jones said.

I'm sure this is just another case of him standing his ground.

She probably looked at him wrong and he thought his life was in danger. If that was the case, he was definitely justified in doing so.

😱 The World is jacked up.

What's going on!?

Sounds completely absurd, and unjustifiable.

Attempting to lump it in with a VERY justifiable shooting like Trayvon Martin is disingenuous and stupid.

Why won't the police reveal this information? How would his statement affect an investigation like this?

The TM shooting wasn't justified, Georgie being a pussy shouldn't mean his shooting was okay. In Cali last week Halle Berry's fiance beat the shit out her ex. He (her fiance) is an ex semi pro boxer who's been training since he was a child. Her ex left with some bruises, but he's perfectly fine. If he can withstand what an amateur boxer with a lifetime of experience can dish out, Zimmerman should have been able to take what a teenager could dish out.

Zimmerman seemed content to resort to non-lethal methods such as:

1.) Crying out for help from neighbors and the police he himself had called
2.) Begging for mercy in a vain attempt to ignite Trayvon's dormant conscience and sense of mercy
3.) Doing his best to fend off the blows with his arms, and move away from the concrete onto the grass so remove Trayvon's ability to open his head with said concrete.
4.) Letting a full minute or more pass with the beating going on like this.

GZ could've whipped that pistol out and blasted Trayvon at any time after the initial punch, and I think he showed a remarkable amount of restraint in not doing so.

I guess the game changed when Trayvon made a grab for his gun and made a verbal threat, guess he shouldn't have done that.

Report says he hit her car with his wheelchair, they argued, and he shot her.

And what the hell was his wheelchair doing anywhere near gas pumps, especially if he lives behind the gas station, as stated in the OP?

Well from what i've learned from spidey the man had no duty to retreat because of the castle doctrine and if she approached him violently (i don't know what that means) it would be justified.

So all we need to know now is who they associate with and those peoples history to decide what is justified here.

Also if either one of them was an "illegal immigrant" (that means black in spidey speak) that matters because then that person is a thug.

Hmm, I don't know here. Technically his motor chair is a means of transportation and in some states that is exactly the same as a car. If she attempted to reach him, pull him off his chair or any such nonsense then it actually would be justified.

Some reports are saying the woman confronted the man in the chair.

And who is doing that? you? congratulations, troll.

I like how the title labels her "unarmed," as if being armed would have done a god damn thing to prevent some crippled 75 year-old psycho from catching her off guard and murdering her.

good shoot, I guess.

Yes, stay in your car.

Gun control anyone? Or would he have killed the woman regardless of having a gun or not by rising out of his wheelchair and strangling her?
