OK, being a new Linux user (Dual boot with XP), I had this thought while downloading the Govt's little security clearance application / program today.

The Government is basically suing Microsoft because they have a monopoly. Well, when I go to a government run web page and I only have the option of downloading the above application in Windows format, than isn't the Government helping Microsoft strengthen their monopoly? The Government is saying you MUST run windows to get a security clearance, and at the same time suing MS because too many people run their OS.

"Let thee who has no guilt cast the first stone" (can't remember the exact verse)

Thoughts... ??

Yes, our government complains that Microsoft is an evil evil company and should clean up their act, but gives them tons of money at the same time. Its BS. I would offer my time, as a contractor (for a reasonable price) to help them switch *some* systems to more agreeable OSes. The government works for me, but I get no say in how they do it...

Governments are inheritly evil. The reason they are going after Microsoft is because Bill Gates is a rich mofo and are a easy target for them. Hes got a disagreeable personality, and he is rich. They think people will sing the governments praises for 'standing up for the working man' by pretending to try take down Bill. When they fail (wasn't really trying) they can point to it and cry 'we need more control over large corporations. They are just trying to play off of the average person's resentment of the extremely wealthy, just like they play the 'race card' (minorities resentment of white people, and white peoples guilt for being white). It's BS. Remember they are politicians. It's just another way they seek control over peoples lives.

A free market will eventually take care of people like Microsoft. Do you think Bill Gates will be around forever? Just remember IBM's control of computer design/manufature and Intel's dominance of the cpus. Now people naturally are finding effective ways around Windows and Microsofts market share is failing (by percentage) slowly but surely. The government stands in the way of progress it situations like this.

Remember:

Power doesn't corrupt, it mearly attracts the corrupted.

oh plueez...
"goverments" are not inheritly evil. goverments are people. some good. some bad . some doing a lousy job because they are bored.
the U.S. gov suing MS and still buying huge quantities of product is like any other large buracracy with each part just trying to do the best it can.

Hehe

I still have to disagree with you. Government are evil inherintly. They enforce rules thru threat of force or loss of money. The use extortion and threats to force people to give them free money. Try not paying your taxes and see what happens!

A well ajusted human society has absolutely no use for a government at all. A good person knows when to be charitable, or when people are trying to take advantage of them. People will help others when they are threatened and a person should be able to defend themselves.

Unfortuantly a well ajusted human society doesn't exist, because the majority of the world is not a good place. So we need a armed force to eliminate the threat of deranged and/or purely selfish individuals or groups of individuals who treaten peoples liberty

So government is a necessary evil! But for the majority of the time a government is nothing but a parasite living on the backs of a free people and needs to be treated as such or individuals will see the government as a easy source of power and money.

,but this is off subject of this forum so I'd better shut-up 🙂

.....so people , not the institutions that they live under , work for , or plot to use for their own gain are the problem.
goverment is just an amoral vesal that takes on the reflection of whoever is doing the job.

but thats just an opinion

he he me too

I'm an Amateur Radio operator and have to deal with the FCC on a semi-regular basis.
Thanks to the paperless government initiative they would like it if we used the internet to do this.
Up until 2 months ago the only way to access online license databases was through the use of Netscape Navigator 4.76.
Couldn't use IE or Mozilla or Galeon or Opera. It also had to be that particular version, 4.79 wouldn't work.
