My friend is continuously have his games (some programs) crash and he gets the error

*** WARNING: Unable to verify checksum forxxxxxx (x being the app)

Can anyone clue me as to what this means?

Frankly, no. Have you tried the default trouble shooting aproach?

For starters I'd run MEMTEST86+ ALL NIGHT to see if the memory is stable.

Also check the HD for problems with both file structure and weak physical read/write magnetic blocks:
- CHKDSK
- HD vendor's utility (WD DLGDIAG or equal)
