Unable to update Bios on A7N8X DX

I'm trying to update my bios rev1003 to 1005 or 1006. The board is rev2.0 When I try Alt+F2 at either the post screen or ASUS logo screen, I get nothing. Notting appens! Just sits there frozen. Is there some setting in the bios that I may have inadvertantly set, that blocks out changes to the bios.? Is there some way around this problem?

I am a die-hard DOS BIOS updater.
I shudder at trusting my BIOS updates to the hands of M$ via the Alt+F2 route.

Take my advise and use the DOS routine that is provided on the Asus site. (Right, M$ has nothing to do with DOS. :confused

Is that the same as the user guide shows as updating via a Bootable Floppy Disk?

if there's a byte merge option in bios then change it to what it's at present!
