unable to turn off the XP firewall and virus check while I have AVG and zone

I am unable to tuyrn off the XP firewall and virus check while I have AVG and zone. How do I force it to stop those services, it is denying me access to some web sites...Damn it

I tried the googled solutions it refuses to stop the service!!

Windows XP doesn't have a built-in "virus check," unless you mean the Malicious Software Removal Tool, which does not run on an ongoing basis. ZoneAlarm should've disabled the Windows Firewall upon installation, since you don't want multiple firewalls running at the same time.

Bigger picture: a website you need to disable your firewall to access? That sounds awfully suspicious. What website are you talking about?

you hit the nail on the head....AND the XP Firewall would not block access to ANY websites.

it is the windows security alerts shield that shows the firewall active and On I cannot shut it off or get rid of the shield from there. It looks to me like the windows firewall is blocking me from that site.

It says Virus protection is on too and neither wants to turn off, from Control [pannel nor from the right bottom tool bar

What symptoms occur when you try to access the site? Be specific. Why do the symptoms seem to indicate the firewall or antivirus is blocking your access to the site?

Also, what Internet Service Provider are you using, e.g. AOL 9.0 VR or whatnot?

Are you logged on with an Administrator-class user account when trying to disable services?

I am the only user, so I am also an Administrator, but I will try and log in as administrator just to get that doubt out of the way.

I use Road Runner. Remember I can get into that site from another computer on my network in my home.

It says the server timed out and try again later, no matter how many times I try it hangs there for several minutes then tels me that. but as soon as I go to my win 2k computer I am on that site in an instant, never a stall nor a wait.

1) is WinXP fully patched with SP2 and all subsequent updates?

2) is the WinXP system's time, day, month & year correct?

3) is this when trying to reach Match.com's homepage, or when trying to log in using your credentials?

It is strange that you cannot disable the firewall or AV, of course.

I have one problem, when I try any site at all I am fine except for Match.com

The suspition is that the system shield was the culpret. But now I suspect it is telling me tat I have virus protection that it is on and that I have a Firewall on, I think it means not its own but the AVG and the Zone alarm ones.

I updated with the non Microsoft update for May 2007 the 308 megabites of Autopatcher.

But being unable to get rid of the MS Shield is a pain in the butt. Still I have no clue why I can enter the sie of Match.com with other computers but not this one, and why only Match.com....!@#$%^%$#@! I have SP2 updtaed untill May
