Unable to send emails on my current network

Hi all!

I had recently updated my AVG to their new one which came with an email scanner addon. After installing I relised I could no longer send emails through outlook (I could still recieve them).

I asked for help on the AVG forums but that didn't lead anywhere so I decided to uninstall it but even after uninstalling I was still unable to send emails.

I took my comp to my inlaws this weekend and set it up there and when I opened outlook the emails send fine without any issues 😱

Both mine and inlaws ISP is Comcast and we both go through a Linksys router (ours is wired while theres is wireless+wired but I had my comp connected via wire).

I assumed it was an issue with my router so when I got home I reset my router to factory settings but was still unable to email so I tried connecting my comp directly to the cable modem but that didnt do anything either.

I'm running Winxp and using outlook 2003. I did not change any outlook or internet settings between being at my inlaws (email working) and being at home (email not working), IP is still the same and email account setup is still the same.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Try contacting Comcast to see if it's a problem at their end.

Some ISPs have begun (been?) blocking outbound on port 25 (except to their mail servers) - usually your mail host will have a second port, such as 2525, available for use.

But my inlaws have the same isp and I was able to email at their house using the exact same settings (port and smtp address). =/

Even if it's the same ISP, they could be managing it differently from area to area. Or they could be experiencing problems in your area.

YAAYY!! turns out our SMTP port is supposed to be 587 as opposed to the one at my inlaws which is 25 😀 Thank you all once again!
