Unable to Record with Mic

I recently purchased an AMD 64 3000+ and a Gigabyte ULI Socket 939 GIGABYTE K8U-939 motherboard.

I was using the onboard sound and everything was working and then all of a sudden the mic would no longer work. I plugged the headset into my other computer and verified it is working. I check every setting I can think of as far as Audio is concerned and even reinstalled the sound drivers and it just wont record. A friend told me when I was trying to talk over Ventrilo that he could hear what was being played back on my PC.

So I figure that the onboard sound is shot, and instead of paying to ship the motherboard back, I figure I will just buy a Creative Audigy SE since the sound quality will be better and it is only $30. After installing the Creative card I get the same issue. No recording.

I even went as far as hooking up a USB microphone. Still no recording...

I then proceed to think my Windows XP installation is broken somehow. So I format my OS partition and reinstall. Still no recording on the Creative card. I am stumped.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
