Okay, I never had to play Blu-Ray on my PC before. But tonight, I do.

And I am finding that nothing will. VLC won't. We all know Microsoft won't support it. I have Power DVD and it refuses because I do not have HDCP.

So I can rip Blu-Rays, DVD's and anything else, but I cannot play a fricking Blu-Ray?

Spend about two hours all over the net looking for solutions.

Yes, this makes me stupid compared to all of you, I know. I apologize. But until today I never had to watch a Blu-Ray on my PC.

I own the damn Blu-Ray and have a BD Rom drive so I should be able to play the ****ing Blu-Ray!

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I do have AnyDVD installed on this system, not that it matters, apparently.

P.S.S. My monitor is an old Dell 24" hooked up via DVI. The build quality and options on this puppy are vastly superior to the cheap crap sold now, so no way am I ever 'downgrading' it. Obviously PowerDVD doesn't like it, but WTF, we can rip in seconds, but cannot just play a disc?

That's weird, AnyDVD should let you play it just like a DVD. What does the AnyDVD status screen say? Does it recognize the bluray? Does it say decrypted and all that? Note that you might need the newest version of AnyDVD to play the newest blurays due to the keys and such.

VLC has basic bluray support not, but you'll need AnyDVD to decrypt it.

I'm really bummed. It sucks that I may have to rip BD's to play them. Hollywood crap copy protection = forcing me to illegally rip their content because I cannot legally play the content I purchased.

Check with the manufacturer of the BD-ROM drive to see if they have a firmware update available.

You state that you have AnyDVD. Which version do you have, AnyDVD, or AnyDVD HD? It makes a difference - AnyDVD HD will work with regular DVDs, HD-DVD, and Bluray. Plain AnyDVD will only work with regular DVDs.

Also, even if you have AnyDVD HD, you still need software that supports bluray playback (the file structure is different than a regular DVD, so normal playback software won't work). You can, worst case, use Media Player Classic and AnyDVD HD to play blurays.

My system is more than capable of laying Blu-Ray. I edit uncompressed 1080p QT files via Adobe CS5 without a dropped frame. It's an issue of HDCP from what I can tell.

I do have PowerDVD installed and for non copy protected Blu-Rays, it plays fine. No problems.

I upgraded to AnyDVD HD a long time ago, but my serial is not working. I have contacted customer support.

In the meantime, I will try some other suggestions giev me, so thanks to all.

This really is annoying.

If your AnyDVD HD serial isn't working, this is almost certainly your problem. Besides decrypting the bluray disc, AnyDVD HD also eliminates the need for an HDCP compliant display for playback.

I agree your machine ought to be plenty powerful - I installed AnyDVD HD on my brother's almost 3 year old HP travel laptop earlier this year. After a little struggle (had to do a BIOS update on the laptop), it works just fine as a portable bluray player utilizing Media Center Classic even on non-HDCP compliant displays.

I don't think your computer is wrong. I think the point is your software: VLC. My computer is Dell whose configuration is similar with yours. The difference is my program is totalmedia. But I never had a problem about blu ray. i can play blu ray on PC smoothly. i have used it for 2 years. maybe you can try this too. it's an easy to use and professional blu ray player software. beyond you can imagine, it's a hd video player and 3d player.:awe:

Ok this may be a huge longshot but are you by any chance using Kaspersky Internet Security 2013? When I first installed it I had a similar issue. The computer would not read my CD's or DVD's then I found out I had to make the player or the file type a trusted device or some kind of garbage. I was stymied no matter what I did it would not read or autorun the discs. Once I did that it worked fine. Like I said this may be a longshot but it worked for me. God luck.

EDIT: Holy cow I just noticed this thread was resurrected from 2011. My apologies for posting on a necro thread.
