hey guys i have a e8400 chip seated on a g33 based gigabyte board (gag33ms2l)
i have a 512 mb xfx 8800gt alpha dog card
and oh a 2 * 2gb transcend 667 mhz ram and a 600 watt extreme power coolermaster psu

the problem is that iam unable to oc my e8400
even for a little bump in fsb (5 mhz ) its unable to make through the post
i tried uping the voltages (1.4 volts for vcore )
and 2.2 volts for ram

i have a 120mm fan and 120mm fan in my psu and two 80 mm fans and the usual stock cooling for the e8400

the thing is it overclocks fine when i remove the gpu or put my old 8600gt card
(went till 3.6 ghz)

is it some wrong with the board i mean g33 based chipset
iam considering to buy a p35 based board

idle temps around 38c
and on torture test (100 % load) 66c

iam doing this in vista (i dont think that would be any concern coz previously i used to have xp and i used to have the same problem)

plz help me !!!!!

I would try to go with at least a P35 board or newer chipset. They just seem to work with the wolf's. May also need 800 memory to get the most out of the e8400, I did.
just my 2 cents

thnx man for the quik reply lot of ppl were advicing me to do this but at that time i only had 200$ in pocket for my ram and board so i had to go with these things now that i have some thing more in my pocket iam thinking of buying a asus p5k e
and maybe later on a gskill or corsair 800 mhz ram cards

did you set your pci-e slot for 100mhz? That might explain why it works without the card. I also had issues with my 7200 in a gigabyte p35 board...it wouldn't bump even a mhz overclock, but tried bios after bios and it finally worked with a paticular one.

yeah i tried that also but it wont stick there i fixed it to 100 mhz but immediately after reboot it comes back to auto

and at present there 4 bios versions available for my board and i have tried all the four and non works for me :((((((((

Ganesh1:

Post all your pertinent BIOS settings (it takes a bit of time noting them down, but it could be worth it in the long run if everyone can see exactly what you are doing - have a scout around on other threads to see what adjustments people use when overclocking).

The G33 chipset supports your RAM and stock FSB. In theory, you should have no problem. Unfortunately, theory is often very dissimilar from practice.

Without wishing to make any simplistic predictions, there appears to be an issue with your GPU. It may be something very simple to so with NB or PCIe voltages. But until everyone can see what you're doing, it's hard to tell.

if i am not mistaken the g33 have a GPU integrated into the north bridge, causing the north bridge to run hotter and be less stable, and is much much less likely to be built for overclocking.

i have cie and eist disabled
ram settings 5-5-5-15

i have tried sticking pcie to 100 mhz but it wont stay there
well as far as i knw this isthe maximum tweaking u can do with this board i guess

can you adjust the northbridge voltage, how about the GPU clockspeed? what is the temp on your northbridge / gpu?

well basically i bought a 8800gt alpha dog card xfx so u knw its already a oc gpu so i didnt bother much to oc it
well the gpu is at 600/1800/1500 for core/memory/shader

i dont have north bridge volatghe settings in my gigabyte board

if u want i can send u a link from where u can download my boards bios manual u knw for a better understanding
