Unable to Install Windows 7 from USB

I have an HP laptop, model dm1-4010us. I wiped the drive using Kill Drive, planning to reinstall the OS, (Windows 7), using the HP disc that was included with my purchase of the machine. Then it hit me that this model laptop doesn't have a disc drive. Short of running out to buy a portable DVD drive, is there another way to install the OS? Thank you.

You really should have an external optical drive. That is also the portal for ripping music and movies.

But, you can also install Win 7 by downloading a file from Microsoft and putting it on a USB flash drive.

Keep in mind that your laptop has features that will not be present. You need the HP disk for that. To keep life simple and preserve sanity, add an external optical drive to your system.

Make ISO from you disk ,
the Make Bootable USB with the above prog by selecting the generated ISO file
.
then install it via usb .

After posting I downloaded Windows 7 iso from the MS Digital River site, then installed the Windows 7 USB download tool. Booted off the USB and it worked just fine.
But, Corky, you're probably correct. A cheap, portable external optical drive is a good idea. I can probably find one on Ebay.
As for the "features" that HP includes, I'd rather do without them. A disk wipe and clean install eliminates all that bloatware.

Sometimes "bloatware" is useful, and fresh installs often do not include specific drivers for the laptop's features, i.e., sound, Wi-Fi, laptop specific power managers, etc.

True, Corky, but overall I'd rather do away with most of the junk that is now standard with a new machine.
Speaking of missing drivers, I'm on the prowl now for one. Device Manager is showing the ol' yellow warning next to Other Devices>Ethernet Controller.

The best place for drivers is the website of the ORM of your laptop. They are usually available in download packages.
