I'm unable to install the Realtek audio driver (V1.4.4). I get a error message that it needs a M$ Bus driver to be loaded in the system.

Specs;
Foxconn/Winfast N570SM2AA MB with the nForce 570 SLI chipset,
Realtek ALC882H HD onboard audio chip,
Sapphire HD 2600XT video card (using the Omega drivers),
Win 2000 w/sp5.1 (yes, it is the unofficial sp 5.1).

Please note I'm using the unofficial sp 5.1 and the custom Omega drivers for the video card since the ATI drivers won't work with 2k. Also notice this video card says it has a HD audio controller built in. What I don't know if these custom Omega drivers have the audio drivers for that feature and how that would affect the MB onboard audio.

SP 5.1 thread;
http://www.msfn.org/board/USP-...me-Edition-t60534.html

Omega driver page;
http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php

Hope that made sense. Any ideas here??

(BTW, I perfer sticking with 2k if at all possible)

Is that Realtek driver the one that comes on the motherboard CD? I don't use Foxconn, but the ASUS on-board audios come with the drivers on the mobo CD... I would think that Foxconn would be the same. If it's not working, I'd call Foxconn tech support and see what's going on. Alternative, go to the Foxconn web site and download the latest audio driver for that mobo.

The video card may be the problem as you suggest. Could you disable it in the BIOS and then load the audio driver, then re-enable the video card? Just a thought...

If you disable the video card how can you do anything afterwards???

Regarding the video card, according to others that audio for the card is just for the HDMI.

I saw those two KB articles and loaded that small .exe file, but I still get the error message.

Just get a cheap PCI audio card as a last resort - it's probably worth spending $30 instead of troubleshooting for days...

BTW, did you try the A4.3...?

http://www.realtek.com.tw/down...TypeID=3&GetDown=false

And disable that Video Card HD audio controller - it might be causing conflicts. If you can, do it in BIOS, if not, disable it in the Device Manager (or equivalent in Win2K).

Good luck!

Would that help...?

To change it back go to: control panel - sounds & audio devices - audio tab & change the default device back to your sound card.

I tried another version of the audio driver from Realtek V1.82, it seem to install, but upon re-boot, when looking in DX Diag, it reports "No sound card" and there still are two "!" in Device Manager for PCI devices.
I looked in Add/Remove Programs and the driver was listed as was that M$ KB file.

Right click that other Audio device in Device Manager, and choose "Disable".

Leave only Realtek sound card "Enabled".

The only "Audio" anything are under 'Sound, video and game controllers' (all default Windows entries;

Audio Codecs,
Video Codecs,
Legacy Audio Devices,
Legacy Video Capture &
Media Contral Devices

DX Diag shows NO sound listed!

You're absolutely right - I must have been asleep when I made that suggestion :)

Do you have another video card? If so, take out your HD 2600XT and use the other video card and see if you can install the Realtek drivers. Then put the Sapphire back in and see if that works...

Realtek Audio High Definition R183 Driver for 2000/XP/2003/64bit - 10th December 07
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://202.65.194.211/pc/audio/WDM_R183.zip"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://202.65.194.211/pc/audio/WDM_R183.zip">ftp://202.65.194.211/pc/audio/WDM_R183.zip</a></a>

Try uninstalling all audio devices in Device Manager. Also: disable the on-board audio in motherboard bios. Boot into Windows and also disable the video card audio. Once you can boot into Windows with no audio device showing as enabled in Device Manager, then go back to bios setup and re-enable on-board audio.

TextTry uninstalling all audio devices in Device Manager.
The only audio devices are what Windows puts there and most of that is just codecs (see above post). There isn't anything else listed. If I uninstall those devices, they will only re-install themselves the next boot.
disable the video card audio.
There isn't any way of doing this AFAIK.

Well, I tried a fresh install (w/ sp5.1),
only installed DX9c,
then installed that M$ so called Bus driver 'fix',
then tried V1.44 audio driver from Foxconn,
but I still get the same message that the Bus driver has to be installed first.

I do have that V1.83 (that link has the worlds slowest server).

Did you try disabling audio in the motherboard bios setup?
Then: go to Device Manager/Sound, video and Game Controllers/ & right-click disable any Devices related to
the video card sound.
Reboot, re-enable onboard audio in bios setup.
In Windows, the only Sound device enabled should now be the motherboard's onboard audio.
I would guess that the official ATI drivers would include a "disable audio" feature.
So, if all else fails, you may need to either:
get a different video card, or else upgrade to WinXP.
Note: that v. 1.44 Realtek audio driver is either: completely wrong or else WAY outdated.
The version 1.83 driver should be the correct driver.
Also, check for the latest Nforce chipset driver. Since you're running an ATI video card on an NVidia chipset motherboard, there may be some incompatabilities.

As I stated, I only loaded DX9 which means (to me) it isn't the video card.
I don't understand why I would want to disable the on board audio to install their drivers??

Ok, I tried a 2k w/sp4 fresh install. I loaded the UAA fix and it changed the listing in Device Manager (something that didn't happen using sp5.1).
It lists two HD audio devices. I then tried V1.83, but it gave me a error message about the wrong chip (something like that).
I then tried V1.82 and it worked!

But, I still have a HD audio device listed. Would this be the HDMI audio on the Sapphire/ATI HD 2600XT video card? I am using the Omega drivers since the ATI ones won't install using 2k.

The reason that you'd disable the onboard audio is: to isolate the exact device in Device Manager (the video card's audio device) which you can then locate, and right-click "disable". After which, you can then safely re-enable (in the bios setup) the motherboard's onboard audio.
Result: no audio device conflict.
