I'm trying to do a clean install on a recently formatted hard drive and it doesn't seem to work.

I've tried Win 7 x86 and x64, without any luck.

I'm running the latest BIOS. I've tried a 2nd hard drive, with a 2nd cable, plugged into a 2nd SATA slot, plus another DVD drive with a new ribbon cable.

Pretty sure the DVD isn't the problem because the ISO has been used many times. The same DVD is able to use VMware to create a virtual machine (not ISO, but by using the specific DVD).

Computer Specs:

MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7125 1.0
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 05/22/2006
2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
ST3250823AS Hard drive SMART reports healthy
3gb ram (memtest shows ram is good)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT

I can boot from DVD into the windows 7 installation. When it gets to the installing windows screen, I get an error at the "Expanding Windows Files" step. The first step is "copying windows files" and my error happens right after that, at the 0% mark.

I have also restored BIOS settings to default.

And this computer used to run Windows 7, but I'm reinstalling everything from scratch. So if the BIOS was the problem, I wouldn't have been able to get it installed before.

This is my error:

"Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

Error code: 0xC0000005"

Could be either RAM or HDD problems, you'll need to run a ramtest on each stick, if the memory is good
You'll need to run a chkdsk /f on the drive, it is more than likely a bad sector on the hard drive. You shoud be able to get into command prompt by choosing the "Fix my Computer" option just after the installation disk loads files and asks if you want to install Windows. If you are able to run the chkdsk /f and still are unable to install then it's time for a new HDD. Good luck.
