Unable to flash MSI K7T Pro2A?

I'm having a weird problem when I try to flash my pro2a. I made a floppy (format /s) in w98 and extracted the 2.4 bios to the floppy. When I boot from the floppy it goes into the flash program and doesn't do anything. It says on the bottom "Don't turn off power or reset computer" or something, but the progress bars never change.

After a couple of minutes, I bit the bullet and shut it down. It rebooted fine with the original (1.9) bios intact.

I also renamed the autoexec.bat (created by the MSI bios extraction) on the floppy to autoexec.old and tried to load it manually, but that didn't work either.

At this point I tried it again and then went to have lunch. After half an hour it still didn't do anything.

I am wary of using the Live BIOS after hearing the horror stories in these forums. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with the flash utility locking-up on my MSI K7T Pro2-A. What I finally did was boot from a floppy and run the flash utility and BIOS file off of my hard drive instead of the floppy and it worked :D!

I had the same problem and went into the bios and had it load default values, then rebooted and the flash worked fine off of the floppy.

Don't give in to the temptation of using LiveBios. You are much safer flashing from a floppy.

ps Isn't that a sick feeling as you're about to hit the reset button staring at that message....

Micron's tip about running the flash from the hard drive worked for me. I had the some problem with the flash program hanging. Hitting the reset switch each time was scary. By the way, thanks micron. I thought for a while I would be RMA'ing a mobo.

Just about how much time should you give the flash program to flash the bios before actually the reset button?

Thanks guys. When I loaded the defaults before flashing, it flashed from the floppy disk fine.

Man, I love these forums. =)

Okay thanks micron :). I think i'm about ready to flash the bios, but I think ill do that after the cable guy comes around tomarrow to install my new cable line. (Currently running 1500/384 dsl, and I need something faster!) After reading all the info and facts about flashing to the new bios on the msi pro2-a I think i'm just about ready to flash ;).
