Happy holidays all.

I was just wondering if anyone is having trouble getting 3D Mark2000 to run on their system. At one point I got to the 17th test but mostly after the first few I just get dumped to the desktop. I have tried the suggestions at the MadOnion website but still no go. The demo runs and finishes ok.

System specs:

PIII700@933, 1.75v

Creative Annihilator 2, 64mb, not overclocked, bios flashed from Nvidia to Creative, latest FastTrax drivers, DirectX7

Creative Live X 5.1 Gamer

MSI 6309 rev. 1, bios 1.6, VIA 4.25a 4in1 drivers

128 Crucial PC133 cas2 ram

Windows ME

I just can't get this benchmark to finish on my system.

Thanks.

I am NOT claiming to be an expert, but I bet it is you overclock cpu.

To check, return FSB to normal setting and run benchmark. If it works, then it is your overclocked cpu.

Yep if its dumping you to the desktop more than likely its the cpu becoming unstable... Might try to up the voltage to 1.80 and it might do the trick if you want to keep the 700@ 933mhz

It could be CPU, but in my case it was always a memory error. Try setting your RAM at CAS 3, or take that 700@933 down a notch or two.

Ahh, the only thing 3DMark is good for. A stability test. Try setting your clock speed to normal speeds, like everyone else said. But then don't worry about your score, as it is useless.

Thanks guys. I will try running it at 700 then maybe 933 @ 1.8v. If still no go will try cas3 on memory even though it is listed as cas2 by Crucial.

Well I guess you guys were right. I set the cpu back down to 700 and was able to finish the benchmark with a score of 5805. does this mean my overclock to 933 is really unstable? I have not noticed any problems with games freezing or any random lockups while I was at 933- just could not run 3D Mark2000. Is 3D Mark2000 just really good at sniffing out 'marginally stable/instable' cpus?

Thanks.

If 3DMark is the only program that locks you computer up, then I would say run it at 933MHz! If you have other programs locking up, then you may want to lower the MHz.

3DMark is a decent stability test, but that's all it's good for, it's not good as a benchmark. IMO, the best stability test is to loop 3DMark 3 times, and then loop QuakeIII a few times.
