unable to find user profile?

In winnt... we're takin over some machines for clients... and... when adding a new user im gettin the error above... what the? how do i get around this.. permissions somewhere?
 
This occurs when you add a new user...i.e. there is no existing profile? If thats the case, there might be something wrong with the default user profile. That is the profile that all new profiles are created from.
 
i think... that the previous support for these pcs have added something in the registry.. or changed something to prevent adding new users. i tried simply copying a profile for a new user and got nowhere. i did find though, that if i added a new user as an administrator i'd be able to log in as the new user. if i backed them back down to poweruser i couldnt log in again..
 
yeah sounds like they had it locked down in some way.

You'd be hard pressed to find exactly what they did, and how to undo it...it may be easier to reformat (if that is an option).

Unfortunatly.. that might be my only option... which sucks.. 40 pcs spread accross two states
