Well after a week of trying to get my Sapphire Radeon 8500LE 64MB (but actually a 128MB??) to work for 3D games e.g. SoF2 and Quake 2 (Both Open GL) I have now discovered that D3D games work perfectly and the root cause would appear to be because the AGP Texture Acceleration cannot be enabled.

I have tried umpteen BIOS files, Drivers etc all to no avail.

I have tried the SiS 113's and 114's all without success?

What am I doing wrong? If I put a GF2 Pro or GTS-V card into the board it runs fine. The Radeon also runs fine on other systems that I have at home including my original Abit KT7A board.

So the issue is caused between the Radeon 8500 and the ECS K7S5A only???

Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Open up the SmartGART control panel and set AGP to x4 and turn on fastwrites, then reboot the system and see if the settings have held. If they have you should be able to enable all of the AGP features in dxdiag.

Thanks for the advice on the SmartGart - I downloaded and installed the latest Ati Control Panel and followed your instructions - low and behold AGP Texture Acceleration is now enabled.

However, even with this enabled I still get the major artifacts in all of my OpenGL games :(

The strange thing is that the card passes all the tests in dxdiag - The card will also play D3D Games without artifacts?

Once I go into a game (openGL) the 2D intro screen is generally properly rendered - however Soldier of Fortune II has numerous rendering defects. Once into the game SoFII or Quake II, the top 3/4 of the screen is almost like a checker board - but not of a regular pattern. The bottom 3/4 of the screen is perfectly rendered though???
