I have installed win2kpro SP4 with all the updates.
My present problem is continual and repeated freezes of all but a single program I may be working in. The way I can solve it is to press alt ctrl del and not delete a thing just close that option down, and that alone restores the ability to get into other porograms for a time, and very soon I need to repeat, untill after 3 or 4 times it makes me wait for longer than a reboot to do anythging with the comouter.
My first tried solution was to try and restore former backups, but as they try to boot up, they all griped with the following requester: ( by they I mean 10 gig drive and another 40 gig drive both do that.)
Your System has no paging file, or the file is too small.
1 right click on my computer select properties then select advanced tab
2Click performance options button, then click on the "Change" button and select volume you want to increase the paging file in.
3 add or set the paging file to a bigger value. I set both those hard drives mine from zero to 2000 minimum and 2000 max. it still gripes.
So I tried to install fresh install of win2k pro on the 160 gig drive. and It cannot seem to find the C: drive with 40 gig I partitioned it to, and was able to format in both doss and in Pertition magic.
I tried that 5 times.
So I did a mirror image copy of my present boot disk that boots up ok but has the freez up problems to see if I could install the win 2k over the old one.
That exact mirror again gripes that either I have no paging file or the file is too small and to remedy it with the above way. I cannot boot up at all because it just hangs up repeating this to me in the mirror copy drive.
So I returned to booting with the old one and tried again to change the paging and found that it was all there.
So why am I able to boot with the first bad disk but not with Norton ghost mirror image of it?
And why does my computer not see either the 40 gog or the 160 gig drives to fresh onstall them even though doss or Partition magic see them fine?
HELP!! I am out of ideas
