Unable to deleted folder

So I'm trying to delete this folder, it gives me: Cannot read from source file or disk.

Ok, so there's a sub-folder in there that's giving me problems. I click on the folder, gives me an Access Denied. Odd I'm on an admin account, I go to folder properties so I can see what the permissions are and change them if necessary. No security tab, only General and Customize tabs.

Fine, be that way. I go to the upper directory from the subfolder and go to properties. Everything works here. I uncheck read-only (placebo I know) and go to the Security. I remove and readd Administrators and give them full control. Hit Ok, "Do you want to apply to this folder and all sub-folders?", Yes.

Still no go.

This is a server OS / machine with no monitor hooked up, so I don't want to go through the trouble of booting into safe mode just to delete this folder. :|

What OS is it? If it's Win2000 Server or WinServer2003, hit the Advanced button on the Security panel and then reassign Owner too.

I reassigned the Owner (actually I don't know how to remove an existing owner so I added 'Everyone' as an additional owner) and checked 'Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. I then got the error message:

An error occured applying security information to:

C:\Folder\Problem Folder

Access is denied.

I hit cancel and this pops up:
Stopping the propagation of the owner leads to an inconsistent state, in which some objects have the setting but others don't. If you made a change by mistake, you should apply the correct change immediately to achieve a consistent state.

Basically saying that it applied permissions to all the files / folders it could but not all of them.

No, I moved the files out of that sub-folder and then tried to delete the folder. That's when I got the Access Denied error message for the first time.

Why don't you just go into safe mode and actually try it? Surely, it can't be THAT hard.

That would mean finding a monitor for it or lugging a 19" CRT down and up a flight of steps. 😛
