unable to delete .avi file

I need some help. I am trying to cleanup my hard drive and move some movie files to a USB drive. Every time I try to delete a .avi file I get a error:

Cannot delete (file name). It is being used by another person or program. ect, ect, ect

I have Unlocker 1.8.8 installed and when I try to unlock the file I get a popup showing what program is using the file. The only program using the .avi file I am trying to delete is explorer.exe.

So, what gives? I try to unlock it and I can't. If I kill the process it closes all widows and refreshes the desktop.

I have shut down and rebooted a few times and that also does not help. This does this on my internal drive and the USB drive. I changed my file association in media player so it is default player of this file type also. No help.

Any clues?

Thanks for the help

Explorer is trying to be too clever (and subsequently not) by whenever you browse the directory that contains the avi's or click on an avi it tries to gather information such as dimensions, play time etc. To do this it obviously has to have a lock on the file to read it, which takes a few seconds and you are trying to delete it during that time.

You can adjust your explorer view so the columns that contain media related information are not showing (and thus means explorer wont try to open the file) or you can just do so in another way eg command prompt or another file explorer.
