Unable to delete a printer: Windows XP Hom

I have a new printer, and I wish to delete my old printer. I tried deleting it through the Control Panel by clicking on the printer and then hitting the delete key. When I go to the Control Panel, the text under that printer says "deleting." It has said that throughout several reboots over several days. I am logged in as an administrative user.

Choose the printer you want to delete. Right click the icon with the mouse and select Delete from the context menu. That should get rid of it.

OK, here's what happened: there were some pending documents. After deleting them, everything went fine.

I was going to suggest that...but found you already figured it out 🙂

Similar problem with a few twists. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have a locally connected HP 3650 printer which is shared on the network. We just installed a Linux server running D3 database and shared the HP with Linux. When the first test print job was sent to the printer it was queued but never printed. I have not been able to delete the print job (and the Dell computer I'm running on keeps reminding me and offering to remove it for me, but failing.) In frustration I tried to delete the printer, which has resulted in similar symptoms to those described. Any thoughts on how I can delete the print job and or the printer and start all over again? I have also been advised that the HP 3650 will not work as a network device to Linux. Correct? Thanks in advance for any help.

Restart the computer connected to the printer. I HATE printers, I deal with them every day at work, this problem comes up ALL THE TIME.

Thanks. I have restarted the machine several times and even taken down the Linux server in the hope that it might release the queued job, but to no avail.

Is it plugged directly into the machine or through a print server? Did you delete the job from the source or server?

If nothing works, stop the print spooler service in administrative tools. Delete the printer. Restart the print spooler service.

Thank you. Stopping the print spooler enabled the delete processes to complete. I will start a new thread re the Linux connection question.

Man I hate working on printers, they always do that crap. Print servers are a whole nother issue. I'll have to remember to kill the spool if one gets stuck again.
