Background:
I restored a directory from an Acronis image. I got the files that I wanted, and I have been trying to delete the folder.

What happens:
When I try to delete the folder, I get a dialog box saying that I need to confirm this operation. I hit continue, then UAC comes up, and I hit continue again. After that another dialog box comes up saying that I need to confirm the operation. I hit try again, and the same box appears, over and over.

Where I am now:
This folder has been on my drive for months, taking up gigs of space. I cannot delete the folder in safe mode or when logged in as another user.

Any ideas?

You might need to reassign ownership of the folder & contents. Right-click it, Properties > Security tab > Advanced button > Owner tab > Edit button.

Now check the box for Replace owner on subcontainers and objects and assign the desired account or usergroup as the owner, Apply, see if that helped or not.

Any good?

Thanks mechBgon, but it did not work. I got a messages saying that "an error occurred while applying security information to" ... " access is denied."

Maybe have a go at the technique we were talking about in this thread, which uses command-line techniques. If all else fails, you could boot a boot CD and barge in there and nuke it that way.

Well, none of that worked. So, I formatted the disk and restored all of the good folders from last night's backup.
