Unable to create Volume texture on Radeon 9700?

While trying to run 3dMark03's Pixelshader 2.0 test on a radeon 9700, I come up with that error: 'Unable to create volume texture'.

Does anyone know what that error means, what might be causing it? Am I mistaken in assuming that the Radeon should be able to run that test?

My specs:
Athlon XP 1800+
Abit KR7A-RAID
512 DDR RAM
Windows XP

Running Directx 9.0 and Catalyst drivers 3.1

I used to have a GeForce 2 Ultra before, and I didn't reformat when I installed the Radeon. Could that be it? Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks.

Oh yes: other than this problem, the card runs fine.

Probably. Dets and Catalysts mix like oil and water, and it is pretty much impossible to completely eliminate all traces of Dets without doing a format. I would do a format if I were you.
