I'm trying to connect my sister's Netgear wireless card to her Linksys router last night and just couldn't connect. I unsecure the network and still won't connect.
Under signal strenth it said excellent.
I can see her Router but when I click connect it just won't.
The machine is running Windows XP with SP2 installed.
I let the windows manage the wireless not the Netgear netgear utility.
(the last time I put net gear utility in it gave me problem)

What type of setting do I have to do with unsecure network.
For now I just want to let them have the internet until I go overthere and secure
it.
Under encryption I put none and the key I try to swith between open and share and
and neither one of them work.

Any help would be greaty appreciated.

thanks

My Netgear wireless NIC (WG511T I *think*) works really strangly with the built-in wireless networking in WinXP. It will work with a connection for a while, then all of a sudden it will stop connecting to it, even if it can see the network with a full signal. I had that happen with the connection at my office. The card worked great for a month after I got it, then all of a sudden it wouldn't connect to the access point anymore, despite it sitting 10 feet from me. Occasonally it will work again, but it dies shortly after. Uninstalling/reinstalling the card/drivers doesn't fix it either.

The only thing that works regularly is the Netgear configuration tool, so give that a try. Knock on wood, that's still going strong for me.

For some reason. The wireless built-in on Laptop seems to work much better than PCI adapter. My Laptop can connect to any wireless routers with no problem secure or non secure. I had nothing but problem with the PCI card. It's so unreliable.
A co-worker told me that the Usb wireless adapter works better than PCI. I will have to give that a try since I have one of those USB network adapter.

I intalled Netgear utility that came with the card and could even run it. Once I finished installing there's no icon on the startup menu. I went to look for it in the folder and try to execute it and it did nothing.
I try to uninstall it and will try to reinstall it again and it won't even let me do that.
When I try to install it again it gave me error. This thing is a nightmare.

I had a similar problem with the utility lately. I had to completely uninstall it, reboot, then reinstall it. Check Netgear's website to see if there's an updated version.

I never had this sort of problem with the old 802.11b adapter from them I have. It's only the new one that gives me problems. I probably won't buy Netgear again after this.
