Computer is running XP Home with SP2. I removed a lot of spyware and viruses. I did delete winsock and winsock2 from the registry per microsoft.com's instructions, rebooted, re-installed TCP/IP and rebooted once more. After doing this I can get online. However, after rebooting once more, I can no longer get online. When I go into cmd, I can ping only IP addresses. When I do ipconfig /all it looks normal to me. I just can't for the life of me get online. No matter what I do, nothing works. I was stuck on this for well over five hours. Any ideas?

Did you run winsockfix? Does the nic appear to be installed? Have you tried a different nic?

Yes I did. Basically that winsockfix is the same thing that I did, delete the two entries in registry and re-install TCP/IP, right? Also, I tried with two nics, both the same thing.

You know what, I didn't even think to try in safe mode lol. I'll try that first thing tomorrow.

are u getting an IP address?

connected to a router or straight to modem?

If router!
- Do you have any software firewalls, - turn them off
- Set a static IP, DNS of 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2
- If you get IP, see if u can ping the router, than a website
- Force the speed of your NIC to 10half
- Turn of any firewalls

just some advise
