Hello all, today I removed my Plextor Ultra40 from my Red Hat 6.2 system since I was going to put it in another system and replace it with an ATAPI CR-ROM. I removed the Plextor and the Adaptec 2940 that the CD-ROM was connected to. Once all the equipment was swapped, I rebooted the system and after POST and lilo promt, the system hangs after trying to detect the hard drives. Last line that it displays is something like IDE0 then some stuff and IDE1 and same stuff. System hard locks after that. After playing with the BIOS and trying with and without the ATAPI CD-ROM to no avail, I put the Adaptec back in without the Plextor. Whoa, it booted normally. Kudzu detected the change in hardware and did its thing. I powered down and removed the Adaptec and got the lock again. What gives? I even tried to reinstall and got the same lock when the install tried to detect the hard drives and displayed the same IDE0 and IDE1. The system worked fine before I decided to remove the SCSI stuff and it works afterwards as long as the Adaptec is in the system. Remove the SCSI card and it hard locks. 🙁
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
