Unable to boot into W98 after adding ATA100 PCI card

I already had my Maxtor 45 GB HDD running dual boot W98 / W2K.
Added the Maxtor ATA100 card and now I cannot boot into W98. I am, however, able to boot into W2K without any problems. When I select W98 from boot loader screen, it just goes blank.
If I switch everthing back to using the on-board controller, both OS's will boot.

Any ideas?

Try this:

* Boot into safe mode and delete the controller reference under SCSI controllers.
* Insert the new controller with no attached drives and boot.
* Install driver when prompted.

If it reboots properly now, you should be ready to attach the drives to the new controller.

W98 boots only in te C partition, so make sure the new card isn' t taking the C letter away from the original drive.

What is your IRQ situation like? Win98 is picky about sharing interrupts, Win2k seems to be better. I recently installed a network card in a friends computer(win98), but it wouldn't boot up with the NIC installed. If I removed a different PCI card, the computer would work fine with the NIC. So I swapped all the PCI cards around, and eventually it worked 🙁

What other hardware do you have in your computer?

OK, I alittle more info:

I have the card installed, but nothing connected to it. Both W98 and W2K will boot fine with this setup. No IRQ conflicts, etc. If I connect the HDD to the Maxtor card, only W2K will boot.

Maxtor suggested a re-install of W98, but I don't think that is the correct answer.
