unabl to partition WD caviar 45.0 HD

i cant partition my new HD!!! whenever i run the wd floppy installation disk, it comes up as:

Fatal Error
Although the boot track was successfully created, partitioning of Drive 5 failed because backing up the boot track failed because there was a device error reading drive 5 absolute error 87930863 count 1.
[/i]

i've tried putting it on different ide ports as slave/master/singlemaster and made sure jumper settings are correct as well. also ran the diagnostics program included in the WD install software, which comes up as No errors. also "wrote zeros" on the diagnostic portion of the program, as directed by WD tech support, but it still wont partition. i have 2 other exact same drives which format and partition fine.

someone help me please!! or is it just a bum drive?

edit - i also tried using different ide cables.

I just bought the exact same drive I I didn't run into a single problem.

I formatted in Win2k Disk Manager and it took less than 10 minutes.
