Can enlighten with these various speed 2x,4x,6x.DVD-Rom drive

Doesn't that playback for these different speed levels DVDs are all the same????? I'm pretty confused with the rating for the speed hence hopefully, someboy can advise beco's I simply don't think that if getting an 6x DVD is playing such movies at 6 x times faster than that 2 x DVD which is the entry level???

When actually playing DVD movies, it only needs to go at 1X, but for purposes of ripping a DVD or copying files from a CD-ROM it is nice to have something faster. Also, my understanding is that the greater the speed the better it does at displaying still images and slow motion stuff. I have a 5X DVD at home and it does just fine for everything I need to do with it. I am thinking about getting a new one for my other PC, and it seems like all there is out there are 12X and 16X, so I guess I will get one of those. Hope this helps answer your questions.

DVD movies playback at 1x.

Seeking in movies, ie fast forward, chapter skipping, benefit from faster DVDROM speeds.

The higher speed DVDROMs primarily benefit software that ships on DVDs, rather than movies.
