We came a little way this year... it's time to just drop ALL of the bullshit against Cuba. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/cuba/article41538987.html

Here's why the US voted "no."
In explaining its “no” vote, the United States said that it couldn’t support the resolution because “the text falls short of reflecting the significant steps that have been taken and the spirit of engagement President [Barack] Obama has championed.”
The U.S. is looking pretty childish.

Oh, and Israel supported us because...

Embargo is stupid but a symbolic condemnation isn't the way to get it lifted. That being said the main things that seem to be keeping it in place are inertia and unwillingness to "lose face" and drop it right away as that's an admission it was stupid.

Hmm, the UN voting anything... What countries are on the humanitarian boards?

So we didn't support it because Obama needs a legacy?

Maybe we should not support it as Cuba is still a pretty fucked up place when it comes to human rights? Maybe the UN should factor that in?

Why would the Nation the subject to a Resolution even have a vote? They should be able to make a defense of their position, but voting seems an odd thing to have.

The more important question is, why should we care? The proper response would be to fart in their general direction.

I'm not sure what they're getting at. The US is trying to repair ties and now they slam us for not moving fast enough? If not for all the attention resulting from the US starting to reopen ties with the country it probably would not even have been a blip on the UN's radar today.

They've been voting the same thing the past 24 years. And Israel has always supported us in each of the 24 votes.

Nothing really new here.

The only time the Americans care about human rights is if it doesn't affect their pocketbook and their ability to buy cheap goods.
