You mean you don't think it's worth paying $11k more than the standard WRX for a 34 horsepower increase?

SOMEBODY will buy it, just as somebody buys aztecs from time to time. I sure as hell wouldn't if I was looking at a car in that price range. I'd much rather have a normal wrx and $11k spare. Although the STI is more than horsepower bumping the 227 of the standard up to 261 can't cost all that much.

I love the WRX but that... "thing" on the back of this one goes too far.

See, didnt I tell ya that this was the price in some WRX thread a while back....

It is 35000 here and it will be that in the US apparently and ppl will buy it I am sure. After all its not a mass market car but rather targeted at Rallye enthusiasts. And I also believe there is alot different to the standard Impreza other than just the engine or a 35hp bump.

But at its heart it's still a 24k car - albeit with some extra stuff. Look at the Passat W8 - projected sales were way higher than people are really buying them because it's a 40k car, but its still just a passat which you can get for under $30k.

Nobody in the US to speak of drives rally even as a hobby, so although it's nice to say you have a rally car and look neat for $35k you can get so many other very nice cars.

The thing about this one is it looks like a normal WRX all riced up.

Intercooler, suspension, racing seats, wheels, steering wheel... probably more.
Overall I think it probably has more modding options to further increase performance... I don't know if it has $11K more though. $30K would probably be a reasonable price.

Well, people will pay $30k for a VW Golf that doesn't even match the non-STi's performance. (R34)

Judging from our quick drive experience in southwest Germany after the WRC German Rally, the waiting list even at such a price will be long. Judging from our quick drive experience in southwest Germany after the WRC German Rally, the waiting list even at such a price will be long.

I think this is kind of like the Saleen mustang. It's just a suped up mustang but it costs a lot more (doesn't it?)
Man if I won the lottery this would be all the car I need, seriously. I'm not one for porches and ferraris .. now if they made this in a wagon I'de be in heaven.

Although I am forced to agree it's rice, it's one of the few factory ricers that I will respect. (the RSX and Eclipse gets no love here) And people DO do some rally style races such as autocrossing and the like. Besides, around here there's always pleanty of dirt roads for the taking, just don't high five an oak tree.

**Disclaimer-hardcore VW person speaking**
First, the W8 is much more than a normal Passat. I could give you a list of 20 things that seperate it from a normal Passat without even thinking about it. Plus, what other 8 cylinder, German engineered car can you get for less than $40K? Trust me, I've driven a W8 very hard on and off the track and it is amazing.
As for the wrx, ehhh...I never really liked them much anyway. Ya, it was fun to drive, just something about it that didn't sit right with me. As for paying $35K for one, I don't think so.
What I would pay $30K for is the soon to be seen in the US (in very small numbers) is the VW R32. Basically a full bred rally golf with turn signals. 240 hp, 265 lbft, 6 speed stick and a racing set up suspension and brakes that were f'in amazing to drive. One sweet ride. Just my thots

Who the hell does that? I can't imagine enough add-ons to get it to that price. My gf just bought a VW Gold TDI for $17,000 and it has everything she could want except a sunroof.

R34 is VW's new golf coming out with 240 horsepower. It will be a nice fast vehicle.

Actually, that's not true at all. Plenty of people are into rally racing (my brother wrenches for a factory Mazda guy on weekends as a matter of fact), they're just not into it here in the south. Most of the races are up north or out west.

IMHO- the people who will be snapping these things up are the rally guys since they'll be easier to get horsepower out of than the current WRX (I'm guessing).

This isn't just a WRX with a bigger turbo and "Rice FX". Before you post about how much of a rip it is, at least knows what goes into the car. I'm not an expert, but if it comes with what the Japanese version has, it will include the following:

-Upgraded turbo
-6 Speed transmission that can handle a load WAY better than the current 5 speed.
-Subaru's version of Variable Valve Timing
-Upgraded suspension
-Upgraded engine mounts
-Better AWD components(dual Suretrac limited-slip differentials)
-Better interior(better sound I think?)
-Bigger hoodscoop for better airflow
-Bigger intercooler
-Better engine management
-The engine is built up more, so it can handle more load.
-Factory warranty for all of the above parts(unlike upgrading on your own).
-Bigger BREMBO brakes.

I agree that if you buy a WRX and put 11 grand into it, you would be able to get comparable handling and speed results to the STi, but you would probably shatter your transmission in the process. To get an STi 6 speed here is going to cost you AT LEAST 5 grand at the cheapest. With the STi you will be getting the entire package, pre-built and tested. This car for the price, reliability, and performance will be VERY hard to beat in it's price range. I also have feeling the HP might be underrated, but we won't be able to tell until the mags start testing them out. This car WILL BE a hot seller.

They should get rid of the wing and call it something else besides a WRX still if its that much different. Just calling it by a different name would help set it apart from the WRX, and even justify the price more with some people.

This Impreza model line goes in this order from lowest performer to best performer:
1)2.5 RS
2)WRX
3)WRX-STi

They are all versions of the impreza, so calling it by another name might just confuse people. I'm not familar with NASCAR, but don't they still call their race cars by their names(like Monte Carlo, or Mustang) even through there are basically no stock parts on the car and it just looks like the original?

Not gonna happen. Did you notice how much of the extra stuff is "Prodrive"? This car is that much closer to the real deal rally car than the base WRX, thus the name (and the wing) will stay. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an option for a smaller wing for street-only cars, but that thing is actually functional if you're racing. 100mph on a dirt road is not a good time to have the back end get light, believe me.
