I signed up for a 384/128 DSL line for $39.99 a month a little over a year ago.

Just recently I've noticed that I'm at the 1mb/384 service (multiple speed tests and dowload/uploads support it) level of service.

Any thoughts on how long till they notice that my line is uncorked?

It's still corked but not at that uber lame 384K. All DSL Modems can do between 6-8 meg down. :(

Hmm reminds me of our cable company.. We've been getting all the premium cable channels for like 4 years now, and we only pay $30 a month :p

Up until 4 months ago, this DSL service provided by a local co-op was the only broadband service available. I was fine paying $40 a month. I'd never consider paying the full $160 for the 1mb line. I honestly have no need for any higher connection speed so I have no reason to go to cable. Even if I did want faster I'd never give a bloody red cent to the cable company in the area (Mediacom). They have upped the cable prices multiple times so many times that a city near me has actually brought a lawsuit against them.

Man DSL restrictions suck. We pay $45-$50/mo. for 10Mb/1Mb restrictions on cable.

You gotta take location into consideration too. I'm in the fricken sticks. It costs money to run the fat lines down to where I am.

As far as actual restrictions on bandwith, how many sites actually let you use that full 10mb potential?

You're paying $39.99 a month for 384/128 a month? You're getting ripped off big time.

I pay $25 a month and get 1728 down and 384 up, and no it's not a mistake. It'd be more reasonable if the 1MB is what you actually get for the $39.99

Well...you pay one way or you pay another. Canada's low cost internet is just subsidized by your otherwise anally violating tax rates.

It's expensive, but like you said you live in the sticks. Any broadband is better than no broadband.

My parents were like that when they had to get their cable box replaced. Unfortunately it only lasted about 4 months :(

Who says it's subsidized? That'd be news to me. I know low-income families can take advantage of a subsidy, but that doesn't apply to me.
