some1 tell me if im loosing my mind, but i just built a pc that says it has a pentium 5 cpu in it....

im sitting here at work, this is the 6th or so pc ive built today, the first one with a p4d 2.66 (805)... msi board, sis chipset, phoenix bios.

i boot it up to mirror the drives as thats how the customer wants it, it hangs after post with a cursor right before the sata raid screen, (before it shows you what keystroke to hit to get into config)

next, cold boot, try to get into bios, it doesnt, so i reset... now it was stuck in a reset loop about 2 seconds long, and cycled about 15 times.

finnally i cold boot it again to try to get into bios, and before i do so i see that it says pentium 5, so i pause break.... this is what it reads after the bios information..

Main Processor : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 5 CPU 2.66GHz(133, 2 CPUs)
Memory Testing : 1015808K OK + 32M Shared Memory
CPU Brand Name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 5 CPU 2.66GHz
EM64T CPU

i would take a picture of the screen but none of the other techs have a camera, ill see if i can get a picture. Update: the office manager is getting her camera on her lunch break if she can find it... *crosses fingers*

its posting consistantly with this p5 post screen, cold boot, reset, unplug power, etc... im a repair tech and have gone through basic troubleshooting, but this is bizzare.... its funny, 3 of us were jsut sitting there staring at the screen, i was cracking up, no clue y....

is there something i dont know? i read a little about p5 but its only a nickname, was never released, etc... core 2 is what ended the pentium name... from wikipedia and other places... but i CANT find anything that p5 was actually produced, and i highly doubt it was... i just dont understand y its comming up with Pentium 5 branding...

has anybody ran into this? i build about 30 pcs a month and have never seen it, and repair more than that...

friek accident aye?

Have you updated the BIOS? That's probably caused by either an old BIOS or just a bad internal recognition by the BIOS.

Yeah sorry to kill your excitement but it's probably a BIOS bug. Or who knows it's a bug on Intel part. Does it OC to 5.0GHz?

Pentium 5 was the pre-retail availability nick name for Prescott, so that sort of makes sense.
Your 805 is made of two Prescott cores.

I've seen that as well, on my gigabyte 8N-SLI motherboard, my 805 shows as a pentium 5 at bootup, and thats with the latest bios.

heh thnks for the confirmation, i knew it wasnt a p5, but now, unfortunatly all 25 of these 805 cpus are being rmaed because with the 2 types of "cheap" msi boards we have they arnt getting past post... what a shame... my boss doesnt want me wasting time flashing 25 or more boards, not worth it in his eyes.. (sure is in mine though, stuff i love doin and getting paid for it)

and for OCing, we are a business solutions provider, we dont OC anything... nor do we sell AMD.. (how unfortunate, im still and amd fan even with my x6800)
