They letting the modding community do all the work with it??? Sounds so judging by the competition for the best map. Regardless this multiplayer ROCKS...except for the overuse of the grav gun. The revolver and shotgun take care of ggun abusers quite nicely.

I think it's a cool idea to let the community help build the game, although it could just be a sign of laziness.
 
Well, at least they released it!
I would expect they will add more Valve made maps eventually, but it seems like they weren't ready to release DM when HL2 shipped, so at least they have given us something.
And the SDK!
 
Mine has worked like a charm since it got released last night...what's yer problem?? I had to reboot my pc after it downloaded as it froze up at the mainmenu in HL2 DM, but otherwise we're rockin 🙂

I wasn't really trying to be a smart ass. I figured you might be looking inside HL2 instead of looking outside in the steam list of games.

I think it's pretty cool in theory. Last night, I only had an hour after it's release to play. None of the servers were working welll. I finally got a somewhat decent server and played for 15 minutes or so. Lots of potential. Can't wait for some larger maps.

Honestly the "DM" portion of HL2 as-is doesn't overly interest me... its the mods that will make this game shine even more... there's no question about that. Hoping with that SDK modders can start cranking. Im just dying for somebody to take the reigns on a TFC "clone" and we can stop waiting for TFC2 from Valve.

I am missing something though... and Im kind of handicapped here as Im viewing my home PC via RAdmin at work... but right clicking onthe Steam icon in the sys tray , I still dont see a place to launch HL2 Multi.
 
I believe the SDK was released last night at the same time. They are even offering $5,000 to the best user made DM map in a contest.

Also, you need to restart Steam if you haven't since midnight for DM to appear.
 
After restarting Steam, it'll update the news and offer the opportunity to DL DM or the SDK.

Only weird thing is that after playing some DM and then burning some discs, I popped the CD in to make sure that HL2 didn't get FUBARed as some are reporting and when I clicked the "Play Half Life" option on the launcher, it started DM! Uh-oh. However, starting HL2 via the Steam launcher worked fine. May've been a one-off glitch.
 
You people are never happy. Everyone complained that there was no DM... the game has been out for roughly 2 weeks and they release DM for it... now that it's out, you're mad that there are only 2 maps. Make your own with the SDK if you're really that anxious.
 
I'm not mad, I really don't give a sh!t....Just thought it was kind of weak to release with only two maps. Name me one other multiplayer game that has 2 maps..

Name me another game that has two seperate multiplayer games for the price of one. Well, make that 3 soon if you bought it via steam.
